Mechanical Engineering Question:
How do motion detectors work?

Answers:
Answer #1
Motion detectors work to help with construction work.

Answer #2
A signal is constantly transmitted (rf wave), once there is an interruption in that signal i.e. a cat walks across the driveway a different signal other than the initial is received and the motion detector triggers a contact or switch to make the light or other source operate.
same applies for an infrared detector that detects infrared energy.
